Lennie Elizabeth Gooldin, 35, of Gallipolis, passed away, at 4:20 a.m. on Friday, February 10th at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, following a brief illness. Born September 11, 1981, in Gallipolis she is the daughter of John and Nancy “Benny” Lease Gooldin. Lennie attended the Gallipolis City Schools and graduated from Gallia Academy in 1999. She was active in the Key Club. Upon graduation she was the recipient of the Dan Notter Memorial Scholarship.
 
Lennie attended the University of Rio Grande and graduated in 2003 Magna Cum Laude with a major in Art History and multiple minors. During her college education she was fortunate to study in Wales with the Celtic Studies program, she worked part-time in the Welsh Madog Center at the University and at the Holzer medical Center as a Unit Secretary. During her college years she traveled to Europe, Russia, and South America to broaden her knowledge and feed her passions for Art and anthropology.
 
While attending the University of Rio Grande she was active in the Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Fraternity, serving multiple offices. She was active and assisted with the National History Program in the local schools. She also served as a judge in numerous school art shows in the area.
 
Upon graduation she moved to Denton, Texas to attend the Texas Woman’s University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Masters in Teaching Arts. She was employed by the White Settlement Independent School District in the Forth Worth, Texas area to teach art. She created and organized and developed the first Art Club in the School, she developed and presented workshops on Art in the 20th Century for a museum in Dallas.
 
In 2010 she returned to Gallipolis and has resided here since. She has been employed by the Gallia County Local Schools. Prior to this illness she started to teach a course in the humanities at the University of Rio Grande. She was passionate about motivating and helping her students.
 
Lennie Is survived by her father, John and Cheryl Gooldin, of New Port Richey, Fl, her mother, Nancy “Benny” Lease Gooldin,; aunts and uncles, Jerry and Ruth Gooldin, of Columbus, Bettilu Gooldin, of Crown City, Julie Lease, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and George and Sally Baskins, of Humble, Texas, as well as their children and grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous great-aunts and cousins, her Godparents, Jerry and Lennie Davis, her special friend, Tony Merola and her beloved rescue dog Greyson.
 
Lennie is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, John and Hester”Nana” Gooldin, her maternal grandparents, Tiny and Aggie Lease and her uncle Douglas Lease.
 
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Gallipolis.  Pastor Tom Slack will officiate and interment will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery.Active pallbearers Jerry Gooldin, James Davis, Tommy Morgan, Bobby Cornwell, Mel Tabor, Hugh Graham and Sean Walker.  Honorary pallbearers are Tony Merola, Jerry Davis, Gary Phillips, Robert Lease, and Kevin Jeffries, Jay Carter.
